Route description
From Santa Maria refuge begins a long descending path towards mount Spagnolo refuge, at the lowest point of the path. We are a bit less than half path, so it could be possible to stay there for the night if you want to do it in two days.
On this section I'm amazed from some old craters, totally covered from just a kind of plants each. For instance, there's a pine trees crater really close to a brooms crater.
The last section is on a recent lava flow; after 4,7 km we reach the Mount Spagnolo refuge. It is no more than a ruined shack, it seems there is a project to renovate it, but in the meantime... bring a tent with yourself!!!
Next step will lead us to mount Scavo refuge
