Route description
Jackson Bay is a place deserving a visit for many reasons:
We walked on the Wharekai Te Kou Walk, but it was proablu better to choose the Smoothwater Bay Track. In some guides we read that penguins live in this area. We could not see any of them, but keep in mind that is strictly forbidden to bring dogs here as they can damage penguins populations.
Path description: this is no more than a simple walk. Leave the car in the parking area and enter the forest, in less than a km you'll reace Ocean Beach, actually no more than shore. Smoothwater Bay is probably a better choise, although probably is more challenge. In any case, don't forget to have a break at the Cray Pot.
More info:
- The history of this place. Only a few people were able to settle here, due to the hostile conditions of this area
- Have lunch at the Cray Pot. It is just a caravan but their whitebait are very popular
- Walk to some bay of the area
