Leirhnjukur, the "mud peak", is an active volcano on the Krafla caldera. Last eruption was in 1984. The path is quite easy , the rain is a bit annoying but it shows has a nice rainbow . The area is full of fumaroles , sulfur springs and steaming craters .
The path goes inside the Krafla caldera, but the rain forces us to close the ring route at the first chance. The return path goes along the 1984 lava flow , still black in contrast with the green of the grass .
