Route description
Dettifoss is probably the biggest or most powerful waterfall in Europe, 44 meters height, 100 meters width.
In this area there are 3 falls on the Jokulsa river flow:
So, if you want to see all waterfalls and also Hljodaklettar, you have to do a long drive looking for the first bridge. Consider at least 2 more hours for the detour.

If you decide to miss Hafragilsfoss, you can stay on the road 862. This was our choice: leave the car at the Dettifoss tourist area, and start walking on the easy path and see Selfoss both in front view and rear view just before heading to Dettifoss, the real star of the area.
It seemed to us that the view was much better from the opposite site, on the road 864, but we read somewhere that the view is usually better on road 862 side. All probably depends on the wind direction.
