It is a group of megaliths in the Argimusco upland, close to Montalbano Elicona town.
They have been mainly formed by rain and wind erosion. Some of them have been modified by humans, but it is not known with certainty to what extent. The ancient inhabitants of these places, in an attempt to explain the nature of these large boulders in the midst of the earth, identified each of them with a figure or a symbol, surrounding with an aura of mystery items that in the end are simply rocks, but that fantasy can turn into something magic. In fact there are so many similarities with actual objects that these stonse can appear real "sculptures created by the Gods".
So let’s pass the gate (remember to close it in order not to let out the grazing animals) to this pleasant walk on a dirt road . There are the following shapes:
- Symbols of male and female fertility
- The mammoth
- The sleeping giant
- The eagle
- The woman who prays
All around flows placid and quiet, between grazing horses and beautiful views ; from here we can see both Mount Etna and Rocca Novara . There are other stones that look more rough , you should look at them from the right side... look at this fantastic monster !. In the highest rock someone carved a large hole , the most imaginative visitors can think of a place for sacrificial rites, probably it was just a way to collect rain water.
Although they are only large stones , their similarity with real forms impresses even us, "modern" men I leave this site thinking about what fantastic creatures must have imagined the ancient inhabitants of this place to justify the presence of these enormous natural sculptures.
