Route description
It is a hike inside the Stelvio National Park. The main attractions are the Lake Pian Palù scenic view (artificial basin that collects the waters of the Noce stream), beautiful views of the few snow-capped peaks that are still white in summer time and the opportunity to make a peaceful picnic at the top of the path, facing the Lagostel lake.
Leave the car in the parking area just before the lake (set Google Maps direction to Lago di Pian Palù), entrance fee 3 euros. At the ancient fountain starts a steep dirt road on the right that briefly allow to look at the valley from above. Along the way there are some educational signs about the park and the animals living there.
Observing animals during day time is very difficult, but we satisfied by flowers and insects,bees and butterflies, as we are not used to them in the cities. During the ascent is possible to look at a part of the Pian Palù lake, but we will never have a complete picture of it.
This grazing area represents the only real difficulty of the trail ... a large meadow full of cows droppings, avoiding them all was virtually impossible. On the return we decided to walk outside the marked path to avoid the worst stretch :-)
The trail proceeds in the forest crossing also a few streems. The path rise regularly until the Malga Paludei, around 2100 meters ASL. From here just follow the pathway 141 for Lake Lagostel. The landscape is now opened, on the flowers background appears what remains of a small glacier, probably the San Matteo peak. We'd like to point out the presence of many marble stones between the rocks. The walk is nice and quiet, we only hear the flowing stream sound. The highest point of the route is at the small Lagostel lake, not more than a pond but immersed in the most complete peace, perfect for a relaxing break in total relax.
This place is at 2450 meters ASL, almost 800 meters higher than the starting point. The trail continues with the long descent that will lead to join the path done during the ascent, closing a partial ring route before the to the parking area.
