Etna hiking in February

Hello,

I am visiting Etna for the first time, during this month.
I see there is a lot of snow, but I would like to hike all the way and visit Silvestri Craters and Montagnola.

Is it possible hiking alone at this period of year? Are there paths marked even if there is a snow now?
Do I really need some special technical equipment or procedure to take?

Thanks,
Djordje

Hi Djordje,

it is not easy to hike in this season above snow. Silvestri Craters are probably accessible, but of course pay attention as crater's edges are slippery.

Montagnola in my view is out of scope. People are currently skiing on it. Hiking paths are not marked even in summer. So you could rise only with the cableway and than walk on the Montagnola area, but of course is a walk on the snow in a ski area, so you have to be properly equipped.

Kind regards,

Bruno
