The Corno Grande is the Gran Sasso's peak. Almost 3000 meters above sea level, stupendous rocky peaks , backdrop to the landscape of Campo Imperatore plateau .
There are many routes leading to the peak, we walked on the easiest: the Normal route, leaving from L'Aquila side of the mountain. There are many signs on the path, the few forks are well-marked. Here we go left for the Normal route, you can go right if you want to walk on the Direct route (more difficult to walk through). The path proceeds quietly, betwenn rocky peaks and the blue sky creating a wonderful panorama .
We pass through a steep slope section, the landscape is absolutely incredible . On our right someone is trying to reach the peak walking on the ridges , a very difficult path (only for expert hikers). We are now in front of the final ascent , a very steep slope among the rocks. It's not so easy to walk in this section, in my view is not something suitable for beginners.
We are now really close to the Corno Grande : under the peak there is the "Calderone" glacier ; in front of us, on the peak, there are so many people on such a narrow path that we decide not to go further, after 6 km walking and 900 meters height difference, we are almost at the top and we already had a really nice experience!
