"I had heard about the stupendous iridescence of the aurora upon the Ionian Sea, when you contemplate it from Etna's summit...The earthly and marine vastness revealed to our sight stretched as far as Africa, clearly visible, and Greece, as far as you could have guessed. It was one of the supreme moments of my life. Nothing was missing, not the golden fringe of a cloud, nor the eagles..."

Serracozzo Cave

E-mail Print PDF

One more cave!

We tracked another wonderful etnean cave.
It is a recent-formed cave, which has been created during an eruption in 1971: Serracozzo Cave. As the other two caves we have tracked so far, it has been originated by the lava flow. Due to its recent formation, you can clearly see on the walls lava flowing signs!

Inside Serracozzo Cave

Owing to the openings on the ceiling, on sunny days the cave is wondefully illuminated.
You can download GPS track and the caves picture using the link reserved for registered users.
As usual, enjoy Etna!
