"I had heard about the stupendous iridescence of the aurora upon the Ionian Sea, when you contemplate it from Etna's summit...The earthly and marine vastness revealed to our sight stretched as far as Africa, clearly visible, and Greece, as far as you could have guessed. It was one of the supreme moments of my life. Nothing was missing, not the golden fringe of a cloud, nor the eagles..."

On the Etna you can find some real natural treasures. The most famous is probably the "Castagno dei Cento Cavalli", (one hundred horses Chestnut), one of theworld oldest and biggest trees... there's even a paint of it in the Hermitage. You cannot miss "l'Ilice di Carrinu", a 700 yeard old tree, and also the huge beech at the Acqua Rocca trail...

Etna guest also a great number of animals and is suitable for birdwatching. If you are lucky, you could see eagles and other raptors on the south side of Bove Valley.
