"I had heard about the stupendous iridescence of the aurora upon the Ionian Sea, when you contemplate it from Etna's summit...The earthly and marine vastness revealed to our sight stretched as far as Africa, clearly visible, and Greece, as far as you could have guessed. It was one of the supreme moments of my life. Nothing was missing, not the golden fringe of a cloud, nor the eagles..."

The trail starts from Piano Provenzana, the ski station placed on North Etna. From here you can go (if there's no snow) between 2002 lava flows and the skilift/skichairs, on track you can easily walk on. The tracks goes to "Monte Conca", one of the many old cratres on Etna.
This path allows you to see the "Stone Forest": it's formed by some pine trees which have been "dried" by the lava flow, but not burned. The gray color they have caused people to call them as "stone trees".

The path is quite easy to walk through and is affordable by almost everyone. We just remind you not to go during the winter season.
