The Calanna Valley is, or better it was, a valley delimited by the "serra del Salifizio" in the south side and by the "Salto della Giumenta"” in the north side. It extended until Calanna Mount, which gives the name to the valley. In 1991 the Calanna valley was completely covered by the lava flow that went very close to Zafferana Etnea village. In order to reach the beginning of the path you need to reach Zafferana Etnea and then follow the signs to 1991 lava flow. The first part of the path is a narrow street you can go through with the car . From here it is already possible to admire the view on the valley . At the end of the street there is a widening. In here there is the start of the path traced by the regional Etnean Park. From here it is possible to go near Calanna Mount walking along the edge of the flow . We notice a few spots of vegetation that survived to the lava flow, and you can also see "il salto della Giumenta" completely covered by lava. Between Calanna Mount and Zoccolaro Mount there is a distance of 2km completely flewed by lava!
At the end of the "official", path it is possible to continue among woods and flows to get to the top of Calanna Mount and then go further into the Bove Valley. Once we got to the top, we tried to enter the Bove Valley and then walk until "L'Acqua Rocca degli Zappini" (see the last part of the path "Carmelo e Riccardo"), but the rain has made us change our minds .
Special thanks for this track go to Massimo, Carmelo, Adriano e Angelo, that accompanied me during the excursion. Thanks also to Mr. Alfio , a person we met during the walk and that revealed to us a few secrets of the path.
